PURPOSE:To provide a discharge lamp operating apparatus which can operate in a wide range of an operation power supply voltage and has a controller whose current consumption is small. CONSTITUTION:A battery power VDC is converted into a high frequency AC power by an inverter circuit 1 and supplied to a discharge lamp La and, at the same time, the inverter circuit 1 is controlled by a control IC (3a). A transistor Q3 is provided between the base and collector of a transistor Q2 and the base of the transistor Q3 is connected to an inverter control terminal 5 and the battery VDC is connected to a terminal VCC. The control IC (3a) is composed of a low voltage starting circuit 6 which introduces a current I0 for the turning-on of the transistor Q3, an inverter controller 7 which controls the transistor Q3 and a power supply circuit 8 which supplies a power to the low voltage starting circuit 6 and the inverter controller 7. With this constitution, a discharge lamp operating apparatus which operates with a low voltage to start the operation of the inverter circuit and has the controller whose current consumption is small can be provided. |
