CONNECTING METHOD FOR OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE SUBSTRATE AND OPTICAL FIBER ARRAY

PURPOSE:To relatively easily connect the optical waveguides of an to optical waveguide substrate to the optical fibers of optical fiber arrays with high accu racy. CONSTITUTION:This method comprises connecting the optical waveguide substrate 12 having the plural optical waveguides 10 contg. fluorescent materials for emitting fluorescence having the refractive index different from the refractive index of a transparent clad in this optical clad to the optical fiber arrays 13a, 13b having the optical fibers 13a', 13b' of the same number as the number of the optical waveguides 10. UV rays 14' are made incident at a large angle on the optical waveguide substrate 12 from its front surface at a large incident angle to emit the fluorescence within the optical waveguides 10. The fluorescence emitted from both end faces of the optical waveguides 10 is directly received by the optical fibers array 13a, 13b and the optimum connecting positions of the optical waveguide substrate 12 and the optical fiber arrays 13a, 13b with each other are determined.
