METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR CLOSING PIPE

PURPOSE: To block the bore of pipes by moving an inflatable bag along the bore of a pipe from an access point in the pipe to a point where the bore is to be blocked, inflating the bag until it engages the internal wall of the pipe or main and maintaining the inflated condition of the bag. CONSTITUTION: An inflatable bag 1 is coupled to a hollow rod 2 that can push it along a pipe. The bag 1 has a rear cup-shaped section 6 with pairs of ribs 4 and 5 and a front balloon-shaped section 7. A major portion of the balloon section 7 is sealed in the cup section 6, and the cup section 6 has a thick-walled base portion 8 attached to the end of the rod 2. A sealant injection tube 9 passes through the center of the rod 2 and the base portion 8 of the cup section 6 until it reaches the interior of the balloon section 7. The tube 9 has a threaded connector portion 10 screwed in a tapped hole through a wall 11 of the balloon 7 section.
