The start-up burner for a boiler is fuelled via electronic-mechanical control. This feed is choked off after a pre-set time and simultaneous release and increase of fuel feed up to normal operation level. The start-up burner is then cut out. Either gaseous or liquid fuels can be used and the switch to start-up takes place directly the burner has been cut out. The mix ratio of the fuel is monitored by mechanical-electronic control of air and fuel volumes and the burner is cut out should the mix deviate from the permitted band range. Mix ratio is typically controlled using a sensor which interrogates the position of a blower air flap for comparing with the fuel pressure upstream of the vaporiser, cutting the burner out if mix deviates, followed by immediate switching to start-up etc.
