<p>The printhead (20) has a single row of e.g. 256 nozzles extending over about 32.5 mm and is attached to a bracket (21) above a guiding plate (25) on which envelopes (24) are propelled e.g. by rollers and belts in one direction (F). The nozzles are activated selectively by 256 control bits loaded into an interface (42) from a microprocessor (4) with a program memory (41). The last 16 nozzles of the row are normally not activated during a franking cycle, so that a small reservoir (31) under an aperture (26) in the plate is sufficient to catch the ink ejected when they are cyclically emptied to prevent then from becoming blocked.</p> |
