The pneumatic jack (1) is supplied with pressurised gas from a reservoir (2,3), controlled by a distributor unit (4) and a manually-actuated control button (13). When actuated the jack causes the breech (9) to open, if in its closed position, or to close if it is open. The cylinder (5) or body of the jack is secured to the firearm barrel (6), with a mobile shaft (7) attached to its piston (8) connected to the breech. A recall spring (10) is attached to the shaft to bias the piston towards a rest position when the jack is not pressurised. The control button operates a valve and conduit (11) which selectively communicate the interior of the jack cylinder to the open air.
