PURPOSE:To obtain an optically active 4-cyclopentenone useful as an intermediate for perfumes and pharmaceuticals, etc., by decomposing exclusively the 1-isomer of a specific dl-4-cyclopentenone compound with a microorganism belonging to the genus Pseudomonas or a stereo-selective hydrolase obtained from the microorganism. CONSTITUTION:A d-4-cyclopentenone of formula II (R is hydroxyl or acetoxyl) (e.g. d-3-acetoxy-2-allyl-3-methyl-4-cyclopentenone) is produced by hydrolyzing the 1-isomer of a dl-4-cyclopentenone compound of formula I (R1 is alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl; the configuration between the 2-substituent R1 and the 3-methyl group is cis) (e.g. dl-3-acetoxy-2-allyl-3-methyl-4-cyclopentenone) with a microorganism belonging to the genus Pseudomonas [e.g. Pseudomonas fragi (IFO-3458)] or a hydrolase obtained from the microorganism and capable of exclusively hydrolyzing the 1-isomer in the above cyclopentenone compound. |
