PURPOSE:To provide a gas generator for an air bag which is easy for fitting a mechanical sensor, and small in size and light in weight. CONSTITUTION:A gas generator for an air bag comprises a housing, a gas generating means inside the housing, and an ignition means of the gas generating means; and it is purposed to protect an occupant from shock by introducing the gas generated by the shock by means of the gas generating means into an air bag. The ignition means is made up of a single detonator 11 that is detonated by sticking a mechanical sensor 4 by means of a sticking pin 8, a transfer charge that is ignited by the firing of the detonator 11, and a transfer charge housing chamber 14 for housing the transfer charge; and that is housed inside the central cylinder 3b arranged in the central part inside the housing.
