<p>A cross-linked, responsive polymer gel network comprising polymer chains interconnected by way of a multifunctional cross-linker is described. The polymer chains and cross-linker have a known acceptable toxicological profile (KATP). Pathways for determining if a particular material has a KATP are provided. The polymer chains should be a component part of a product that is considered in compliance with applicable governmental agency regulations as acceptable for a use selected from the group consisting of a food use, a cosmetic use, and an animal drug delivery use. Moreover, the cross-linker also should be a component part of a product that is considered in compliance with applicable governmental agency regulations as acceptable for a use selected from the group consisting of a food use, a cosmetic use, and an animal drug delivery use.</p> |
