The present invention is such that with a cartridge (4) in which an optical disc is housed, various types of optical discs can be identified using identification section (10c) that indicates whether or not one side of the optical disc can be written into, identification section (10a) that indicates whether or not one side of the optical disc is for reproduction only, identification section (10b) that indicates whether or not one side or the other side of the optical disc has a reverse track spiral opposite to the forward track spiral, identifi-cation section (10d) that indicates whether or not the other side of the optical disc has the reverse track spiral, and identification section (10e) that indicates whether or not the other side of the optical disc (1a) can be written into.
