PURPOSE:To provide a material and method for purifying exhaust gas which can remove efficiently nitrogen oxides from combustion exhaust containing oxygen in a theoretical amount or more for burning residual components such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:In the exhaust gas purifying material which has the first catalyst in which an active silver compound is supported on a porous inorganic oxide on the exhaust gas inflow side and the second catalyst in which at least one kind of active element selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh, and Ir is supported on a porous inorganic oxide on the exhaust gas outflow side, the silver compound is powder with an average diameter of 10-1000nm, and hydrocarbon and/or an organic compound containing oxygen are added externally as a reductant to reduce nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas. |
