Auto-polarized multilayer magnetoresistive transducer

A multilayer self-polarised magnetoresistance sensor is claimed comprises an element sensitive to a magnetic field made up of a stack of alternate magnetic and non-magnetic layers (13, 14, 15, 16, 17). This element having a longitudinal direction oriented parallel to the magnetic field to be measured; a current generator (34) to pass an electric current through the element in the longitudinal direction; a voltmeter (38) to measure the resistance of the element. The central ferromagnetic layer (14) has a magnetisation that is blocked and directed in the longitudinal direction whilst the second and third ferromagnetic layers (13 15) have a magnetisation perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, the magnetisation of the second layer (13) being in an opposing direction to that in the third layer (15).
