PURPOSE:To provide an image processing unit in which a pseudo intermediate tone image with excellent gray reproducibility is generated when a color intermediate tone image is binarized to generate color image data of the pseudo intermediate tone. CONSTITUTION:Prior to the binarizing processing of a color intermediate tone image by the error spread method, whether or not picture elements whose density of cyan(C), magenta(M) and yellow(Y) is coincident are in existence is checked and if the picture element whose density is coincident is in existence, the density of the cyan(C), magenta(M) and yellow(Y) is replaced with a black color and the binarizing processing is executed by an error spread method based on each density of the cyan(C), magenta(M), yellow(Y) and black after the replacement. Thus, the color image data of the pseudo intermediate tone with excellent gray reproducibility are generated based on the thresholding error distributed to surrounding picture elements by the error spread method. |
