Residue material is fed into the furnace via a screw feed (200) to slide down a side wall (14) into the molten material (12). The feed material forms a cone (40) whose point facing towards the molten surface has an angle (B) of /- 25 deg . The point of the cone may be partially submerged or located above the molten surface (12).
