The method involves synchronising an audible emission representing pref. a pleasant and restful situation, e.g the sound of waves breaking on the seashore, or the calm respiration of a fully relaxed sleeper, exactly with gentle pressure on the abdomen or chest at the beginning of each exhalation. The method may be implemented with a variety of appts. The sound may be generated mechanically by balls tumbling within an electrically rotated wheel. The pressure may be applied from inflation of an air bag loosely secured by a belt.
