Primer coating for polymeric film

Described and claimed is a primer coating, and polymeric film with the primer coating making the film suitable for moisture-resistent and retort packaging applications. The primer coating comprises a shellac component and a copolyester component, both of which are water-dissolvable or dispersible. The shellac component can include modified shellac resins such as shellac varnish, shellac-lacquer, or shellac copolymers.
