The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for cutting a log (3) in a cutting apparatus with a movable cutting device (8, 9). The cutting is performed along the log (3) fastened to the cutting apparatus with clamps (1, 2), from one end of the log to another, whereupon the cutting device (8, 9) cuts the log in moving in both directions. In the log cutting according to the invention, the cutting device is arranged to receive control from a guide member (16, 17, 18, 19) moving along the cut surface of the log (3), whereupon the distance of the cutting device (8, 9) from the cut surface of the log always remains the same. |
