The mitre saw comprises a base (10) for supporting the work piece, an arm (20) which can turn about a horizontal plane carrying a pair of positioning plates (30) on its two ends. A pair of retaining blocks (50) are freely fixed to the positioning plates by a bolt (60) and a nut. Each positioning plate has a semi-circular notch (31), several holes (32) at radially equidistant positions from the notch and an elongated opening (33) between the notch and the holes. At one end of the retaining blocks is a guide rod (55) and each block has a pin which engages in a selected hole in a corresponding positioning plate for orientating the guide rods along a chosen vertical angle. Several rows of projections (13) are formed on the surface of the support base for supporting the work piece in a raised position.
