The copier has an illumination device, a device for holding transparent documents in the illumination beam path, a measurement device (8) and a positive platform for holding light sensitive material. The illumination beam path contains light scattering material (25) whose effect is switched between at least two corner values by a control device (29). The light scattering material, which can be a nematic curvular aligned phase foil, is placed at the output of a mirror shaft (23). A mirror which forms an image of the document on the measurement device is movable in the illumination beam path between the document and positive platform.
