Apparatus for the transfer of cylinder-shaped nuclear fuel pellets applicable to an apparatus for inspecting them. Comprises primary and secondary rollers 28, 29 for supporting pellets that are placed horizontally, substantially parallel and extended longitudinally; which rollers have a transverse separation less than the diameter of the pellet that they have to transfer, and which pellet- supporting rollers form at least one part of the pre-set path, a device 40 located between the separate rollers that engages a pellet and transfers a pellet along the said path between the rollers for supporting separate pellets, and driving means connected to these pellet-supporting rollers, which cause the rotation of the said pellet-supporting rollers upwards and outwards. It is used in inspecting and detecting surface defects in nuclear fuel pellets. <IMAGE>
