The elimination of unsaturated impurities from 1,1,1,2-tetra:fluoroethane

A method for the purification of crude 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (F134a) contg. unsatd. impurities by gaseous phase treatment of a mixt. of crude F134a, HF and Cl2 at 100-300 deg C and a pressure between atmospheric pressure and 2.5MPa in the presence of a fluorination catalyst. The molar ratio of HF:F134a is 0.05-0.5 and that of Cl2:F134a is 0.0001-0.1.
