<p>An apparatus for forming grooves (18) in the cylindrical surfaces of tubes or rods has a passage (38) through the apparatus with a grooving roller (44) mounted adjacent the passage. The roller (44) has a helically extending ridge (48) formed on its circumference, with the ridge extending into the passage (38) and the roller being mounted for rotation about an axis (54) inclined to the axis (50) of the passage (38). The angle of inclination of the axis (54) is such that the ridge (48), where it extends into the passage, runs at right angles to the axis (50) of the passage. The roller (44) is made to rotate about the tube or rod (10) as the tube or rod passes through the apparatus.</p> |
