A process for delignifying and/or bleaching cellulose suspensions which are unbleached or pre-bleached using peroxide in an alkaline medium or using compressed gaseous oxygen in an alkaline medium and possibly neutralised by washing, using chlorine dioxide, in which the cellulose suspensions are treated with a peroxide compound in an acid medium before chlorine dioxide bleaching.
