PURPOSE:To provide a light emission at a high efficiency wherein desired band gap can be set with matching the lattice of crystals in a ZnTe active layer with that in two clad layers by forming such a structure that the active layer is held between the clad layers and using ZnMgSeTe for making the clad layers. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 1 has a GH structure wherein specified active layer 2 is held between a 1st and second clad layers 3 and 4 and laminated on a GaAs, InAs or GaSb substrate 10. The layers 3 and 4 have a ZnxMg1-xSeyTe1-y mixed crystal structure wherein they make the lattice matching with the active layer 2 and have larger band gaps than that of this layer. By using the clad layers, a light emitting element 1 having no lattice defect and a high-efficiency light emission owing to the active layer 2 can be made. Since the lattice matching of the layers 3 and 4 is made with the layer 2, the thickness setting of each layer can be set freely. |
