Envelopes (4) are located parallel to each other in a magazine (1). A removal head (2), which comprises a perforated belt (12) communicating with a suction source (19), draws the envelopes one by one against the belt. During its displacement the belt drives the envelopes. The envelopes are held between two rollers (13), respectively upstream and downstream of the displacement direction of the belt. The envelopes are recovered by two complementary rollers (24,25) rotating in opposite directions with a different peripheral speed to that of the belt. This creates a space between successive envelopes. The side of the envelope pile is applied against a plate with edge lips (6) carried by the magazine.
