PURPOSE:To provide an object contour tracking method which stably extracts and tracks the contour of an object in a moving image. CONSTITUTION:The contour of the object in the moving image is tracked by a contour predicting means 16 which uses contour information obtained at the preceding time to predict the contour at the present time, an image potential field calculating means 13 which calculates the image potential field in accordance with the edge strength of the image, and an energy minimizing means 15 which takes the predicted contour obtained by the contour predicting means 15 as the initial value and moves and updates the contour so as to minimize the sum of the image energy of the contour calculated by using the image potential field, where the contour is placed, and the internal energy of the contour calculated by using the shape of the contour. |
