PURPOSE:To obtain a component recognition apparatus in which the image of a component can be read out by using a line sensor in the process of moving a suction head to a mounting position from a component suction position and in which the image can be read out suitably. CONSTITUTION:A unit 20 for component detection is equipped on a head body 7 for a suction head in a mounting machine. Light-emitting parts 22A, 22B and a light-receiving part which is composed of a line sensor 23 are arranged in the unit 20 for component detection in a prescribed positional relationship in such a way that beams of light which are shone toward a component sucked to a nozzle member from the light-emitting parts 22A, 22B are received by the line sensor 23.
