Partially crystallized monolithic expanded aluminosilicate characterized in that its dual open porosity makes it superabsorbent to liquids, especially to water. The expanded material of the invention results from the stages of mixing ground glass with 0.5 - 5 wt % of an aluminium-based nitride; oxidising said nitride with the glass, heating the previously obtained powder for at least 5 hours at a temperature ranging from the Littleton temperature to the glass working temperature, and then cooling and collecting the aluminosilicate.
