Protection of railway linesmen teams from approaching trains

A protection device for railway workers (platelayers, etc) uses a magnet with a resonance frequency of two kilohertz, plus a relay. The magnet operates the trains' emergency brakes. The magnet is connected by communications cable about eleven hundred yards long to a control apparatus. By means of switches, this apparatus can activate or deactivate the magnet.
