The bobbin winder has an additional yarn guide, to wind a yarn reserve on to the bobbin sleeve outside the zone of the reciprocating yarn guide movement, with a barb at the end of the arm. In the catch position, the end of the barb is angled against the direction of the yarn reserve zone opposite the yarn running plane so that, with the arm, it forms a hook-shaped yarn running opening. The yarn guide unit is moved out of the movement zone of the reciprocating yarn guide into a laying position next to the winding zone, and can pivot on an axis to draw the yarn from the reciprocating yarn guide and lay it at the bobbin sleeve to one side of the winding zone.
