The proposed fire extinguishing device has an aerosol-producing fire-extinguishing generator, in which among other things an aerosol-producing charge, mixture or the like is housed in an elongated housing and an ignition device allocated to the charge or mixture. To reduce the number of different types of generators which must be stocked for different eventualities and to simplify and reduce the cost of mounting them, for example, on walls, interior surfaces or in fire extinguishers, a receptacle unit (1) is provided with at least one standardised connection piece for generators (3) of identical or differing power.
