PURPOSE:To provide a radio selective call receiver and a radio selective call method which enable a user to adopt or reject the information service at need. CONSTITUTION:The call number added to a message is classified to three kinds, namely, an individual call number 23, Gr call numbers 24 and 25, and common call numbers 26 to 29. Only common call numbers 26 to 29 are distinguished by a preliminarily determined highest layer number 22a, and they are so set that information contents are roughly classified by the highest layer number 22a. Common call numbers 27 to 29 have a hierarchical structure, and the user can register the common call numbers 26 to 29 in the radio selective call receiver at need. At this time, it is sufficient if he registers only required parts of common call numbers 26 to 29. When receiving a message, the receiver compares its call number with all of the registered call numbers with respect to only the number of effective digits and detects coincidence to report the call.
