PURPOSE:To provide a method for liquefying and separating the air which improves argon yield without influence to the yield and composition of a product to be collected from an upper tower. CONSTITUTION:A reboiler 31 is installed in a crude argon tower 19. Liquefied air discharged from a lower tower 2 and supercooled by a supercooler 11 is introduced to the reboiler 31 as a heat source. The pressure of the liquefied air further cooled by the reboiler 31 is reduced, and then introduced into a crude argon condenser 15. The liquefied air introduced to the reboiler 31 as the heat source is discharged from the tower 2, then branched, fed partly to the reboiler 31, and at the residue to the supercooler 11, then supercooled, then combined, reduced under pressure, and may be distributed to the condenser 15 and the tower 8.
