The invention relates to an actuation device for opening and closing a door, this device including a drive mechanism equipped with a transmission member of the chain and/or belt type describing a looped circuit having approximately a figure-of-eight shape which is wound, partially, around at least two pulleys or sprockets having a vertical axis of rotation, each of which acts, directly or via suitable actuating members, on one of the two leaves making up the door, for the purpose of imparting to the said leaves a rotation in opposite directions from each other through the action of motor means. This actuation device is characterised in that a rigid transition piece (16) is inserted into the circuit (9) of the transmission member (8) to define a housing (17) in which an actuator rod (20) is positioned in such a way that it is located in the circuit (9) of this transmission member (8) and acts axially on the latter via disengageable linkage means (31), the motor means (18) being capable of imparting a dual-direction rectilinear axial displacement to this actuation rod (20).
