In a procedure for equipping a filter plant (4), at least one of the existing filter bags is removed and replaced by a filter element arrangement consisting of inherently mechanically stable, sintered, open-topped filter elements (18,19) attached to a connection element (16) which fits onto the connection point for the removed filter bag. Also claimed is a filter element arrangement for use in the procedure. The elements used in the procedure are made from sintered granular plastic materials, and more than one element is attached to a circular connection element. More pref., two filter elements extend longitudinally and side-by-side. The procedure includes the modification of the pipework and nozzles for the reverse-flow cleaning system so that a nozzle (28,30) is directed into the open end of each new element. The elements are fixed to the connection pieces using a plastic moulding material. The cross-section of the elements perpendicular to the longitudinal axis is such as to fit within a circle of 100-200 mm diameter. The ratio of length to the smallest width of the element is at least 25:1. Where two elements are mounted on a common connection piece, their closed ends are connected by a holder (22).
