A quick-change chuck device (10) has a body member (12) having a recess (79) with a circular cross section defined therein for the receipt of a tool shank (13). An outer sleeve member (70) is coaxial about the body member (12) and axially movable relative to the body member (12). A spring mechanism (36) biases the sleeve member (70) relative to the body member (12), with the sleeve member (70) being axially movable against the spring mechanism (36). An axial movement locking device (40, 42) is actuated by the sleeve member (70) and axially locks the tool shank (13) within the recess (79) when the sleeve member (70) is in its biased position. The locking device (40, 42) axially unlocks the tool shank (13) when the sleeve member (70) is moved axially against the spring mechanism (36). The rotational movement locking device (24) receives the circular tool shank (13) passing into the internal bore (26) of the body member (12). The rotational movement locking device (24) includes a plurality of spring loaded longitudinal bearing members (28) disposed about the bore (26) and biased radially and tangentially into the bore (26) so as to contact the tool shank (13).
