The method of transmission between a reciprocating drive unit and an object (1) to be displaced with a linear alternating movement consists of transmission drive (5) upstream of the object. Part of the transmission is parallel to the direction of movement to be transmitted and is rigid in that plane. It cannot pivot and has a length which varies from zero to the maximum value of the movement required. The drive can be in a different plane by the transmission being in the form of a ribbon of material with a curved cross-section which is guided in a sheath.
