Drilling mast hinged to body and erected by power cylinders

A drilling mast (30) is divided between hinges (19,24) into top (22) and bottom (20) parts via a connection (21) which operates as horizontal hinge to allow the two parts to be folded parallel for transport. A mast erector (28) with inbuilt variable-length hydraulic cylinder unit (29) is hinged at one end to the body (13) and otherwise is hinged to the bottom mast part (20) between main hinge and the bend axis of the mast part connection (21). The two mast parts are locked together by a bolt when lined up in drilling position and their connection (21) hinge axis lies outside the section of the main horizontal hinge between the two parts and on the mast side in which the two parts face each other when folded for transport. Two separately controlled power cylinders support the mast. At least one of the cylinders is arranged in such a way that its longitudinal axis (L) is not parallel to the body axis (13) and to the plane of the fully tensioned mast.
