Hymenialdisine represented by general formula (I) and a derivative thereof, and a process for producing the same, wherein X1 represents halogen or hydrogen. These compounds have a protein kinase C inhibitory effect and are expected as a remedy for diseases wherein protein kinase C activation is thought to participate.
