Manufacture of multicore high temperature superconductor

The mfr. of an elongated multicore superconductor with several high temperature superconducting cores embedded in a matrix of silver, uses a powder-in-tube technique. Several shaped part-conductors 2 with cores 3 made from an initial product of the superconducting material and a silver sheath 4 are bundled together inside a silver tube. The resulting tubular conductor is then shaped several times. The pre-shaping of the part-conductor and at least the first step in the shaping of the tubular conductor is done cold and before the bundling, the sheaths are momentarily fused up to a predetermined depth from the surface 5 by a laser beam 7.
