The remote control system has a memory holding a menu for stepped control of two or more audio-video units (104a,104n), with classification of the signal control condition for each audio-video unit in a main menu stage, a sub-menu stage and a regulation mode stage and coding of the signal corresponding to each menu. Each of the menus for the audio-video units is displayed and one is selected, with transmission of the corresponding menu code to a given receiver within the audio-video unit, with recognition of the selected menu, allowing the remote control of the audio-video unit to be effected in accordance with the menu.
