Vehicle axle differential with loaded differential bearing

The differential housing (18) for a vehicle is constructed within an outer housing. It has axially located bearings (24,26) to support and centralise the differential housing. In one of the bearing seats (40) there is a load element (42) that operates on the bearing to maintain constant wear of the drive wheel and the bearing. The differential housing has a flange for a tooth ring (16) that turns with the axle housing. The bearing seat is positioned opposite the flange. The load element may be a shaft spring, screw spring, distance ring or plate spring. In the other bearing seat is a distance ring (44) through which the play between the drive pinion (14) and tooth ring (16) of the drive train is adjusted.
