A pneumatic radial tire wherein only two straight and wide main grooves are formed in a tread surface thereof on the left- and right-hand sides of a tire equatorial line respectively, wherein an area sandwiched by these two main grooves is made to constitute a rib, while lug grooves and/or sipes are disposed in a widthwise direction of the tire in shoulder areas outside the respective main grooves so as to form a row of blocks continuously extending in a circumferential direction of the tire, and wherein a distance a from the equatorial line to an equator side edge portion of a main groove and a width b of a main groove are set as below relative to a half W of the tread surface width in contact with the ground: 0.10
