Windscreen wiper control circuit

The windscreen is provided with a detector for raindrops and a sensing system which monitors the effects of the individual raindrops. A programmed control activates the wipers when a set amount of raindrop coverage is on the windscreen, with the wiping mode matched to the continuing detection of raindrops e.g. wiping speed, intermittent wiping, etc. The raindrop detector comprises a resistive film over the outside of the windscreen. The sensor (1) is linked to the vehicle electrical system via stabilising circuits (2,3) and the detected signals are processed via an analogue/digital circuit (4) and a microprocessor (5). The control includes a memory to take account of water left on the windscreen after a pass of the wipers.
