There is provided a method for treating a shaped article made of a polypropylene resin before coating, comprising the step of degreasing and deterging a surface of the shaped article with an aqueous alkaline solution composed of (a) 5-50 g/liter of a builder and (b) 1-10 g/liter of an ethylene oxide adduct of aryl- or aralkyl-substituted phenol at 50 DEG -70 DEG C., the ethylene oxide adduct of aryl- or aralkyl-substituted phenol having a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of 8 to less than 12.
