<p>A photonic system (10) for compressing and decompressing data using a hologram (24) that converts a plurality of spatially modulated light beams (23) into a single reference beam (26) that has a wavelength unique to a bit string of data. The single reference beam is then converted into a plurality of spatially modulated light beams by a diffraction grating (46). The light beams are detected by a bank of photodetectors (50) which convert the photonic energy into electrical signals that correspond to the originally transmitted bit string.</p> |
