Within a cell oriented communication network a signal cell current, supplied to a coupler (CCa) at the start of a path pair, is duplicated for the diversion. The resulting signal cell currents are supplied separately to a coupler (CCb) at the end of the path pair via an active path (AL) and a substitute path (EB) allocated to the latter. The final coupler contains a decontrol synchroniser (54), or several such synchronisers, in which the synchronising of both signal cell currents takes place while the active path current is conducted further on. After the synchronisation the signal cell current of the substitute path is also conducted further on.
