Equipment for prodn. of an object in a material which is solidified in layers (1) using irradiation has an irradiation source (3) for prodn of an electromagnetic beam and a diverting device (5) for directing the beam (4) at appropriate areas of the layers (1). Light beam (4) efficiency is enhanced by a sensor (9) located between the diverter (5) and the material layer (1) and measuring beam parameters which are fed to a control unit (6) for subsequent variation of the beam (4). In a claimed process for mfg. a three-dimensional object, the object is built up in solidified layers and the beam (4) position, output and dia. are measured at points just above the layer (1) being hardened.
