Edge tension measuring device for contact-point between workshop tool and workpiece

The measuring device determines the tension imposed at the point of contact between the sensor and the material. It consists of a receiver (5) which guides the transmission element to the test point, under which the material is situated. A sphere (1) projects to within 0.1 mm of the tool's inner surface and rolls on contact with the material, applying tangential stress to a deformation sensitive rod (2), which together with the sphere forms the transmission element through which the contact friction is conveyed via a curvature impulse.The rod fixed by 2 screws (9) to a compressing cylinder (3) which applies a force via the sphere. The stretching of the rod and thus the compression of the material can be measured. A protective tube (4) shields the device from the effects of ambient heat, and the whole device is inserted into a recession and held by a nut (6).
