PURPOSE:To decrease the internal resistance of a fuel cell by using a composite separator comprised of a heat resistant metal plate and a conductive oxide plate which are the same form and size and both of which have gas circulating channels and collector portions formed on their top surfaces and have flat bottom surfaces which face each other. CONSTITUTION:A flat unit cell 3, which comprises a solid electrode 4 sandwiched between a fuel electrode 5 and an air electrode 6, and a separator 1 are stacked alternately, pressurized, and assembled into a stack of plural layers. The separator 1 comprises an almost rectangular heat resistant metal plate 1A and a conductive metal oxide plate 1B, with plural lines of gas circulating channels 1c and projections lb formed on the surfaces of both plates 1A, 1B to make contact with the fuel electrode 5 and the air electrode 6, respectively. The metal plate 1A and the oxide plate 1B are the same form and size and have their overall bottom surfaces made flat. Therefore, the overall bottom surfaces can be cut by a shaping machine and finish polished by a grinding machine. Therefore machining is easy, the accuracy of flatness of the bottom surfaces is enhanced, and the contact resistance of the fuel cell is decreased. |
